This bbq rig was custom built for Shawn and April MacFarland to compliment their brick and mortar restaurant. Unfortunately, shortly after completion on February 28, 2023 April was diagnosed with stage 4 triple negative breast cancer.
Their priorities changed overnight and they closed the restaurant. At that point they had no need for the bbq trailer. A mutual friend of ours put me in touch with Shawn and April. Once I heard their story Mary and I knew it was a no brainer for BKS SMOKIN ASH BBQ to step up and purchase this awesome rig knowing the money would go to a much needed cause and it would compliment our company for charity events in the future.
My name is Barry Keene and I am the founder and president of BK’s Smokin Ash BBQ. I was born in Jacksonville, FL and currently reside in Orange Park, FL married to my wife Mary. We have one son, Joe, and four grandchildren.
My love for BBQ started 25 years ago after hosting and cooking for tailgate parties at Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars games. Early on it was obvious that people really enjoyed what we had to offer and from there I became a self made “Pitmaster”. We now host and cook for several occasions including charity golf tournaments and weddings, but I value the chance to cook for my co-workers the most. I've been in the car business working at Ford dealers since 1982 and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing fellow employees sitting together and enjoying some BBQ.
I always strive to hone my skills through following the practices of professional pitmasters and try different methods. Whether it's cooking for 2 or 200 people, I believe every meal is unique in its own way. If you want to talk “rollin smoke”, reach out anytime but be aware that it won't be a short conversation!
